Notturno in Fa Maggiore 2021 is a red wine produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes, representing the excellence of the Romagnolo wine tradition. Its story begins in the 1980s when Count Claudio Drei Donà planted the first Sangiovese vineyards at Tenuta La Palazza, a site already renowned for its winemaking potential. The wine is named after a magical event: the birth of a horse during a full moon night, which inspired the family to name their wines after their beloved animals. Notturno is distinguished by its ruby red colour and complex aromatic profile, featuring notes of white pepper, redcurrant, liquorice, and red flowers. On the palate, it is balanced and engaging, with a good tannic structure. Vinification is carried out using traditional methods, with fermentation in stainless steel and cement tanks, followed by maturation in tonneaux and barriques. With a potential for ageing of 8-13 years, Notturno is best served at 17°C and pairs perfectly with dishes such as filet à la Robespierre. This wine is not just a beverage; it is a celebration of the history and passion of the Drei Donà family.

The Tenuta La Palazza was built between the cities of Forlì and Predappio in a strategic position between the valleys of the Montone and Rabbi rivers, around one of the watchtowers that Caterina Sforza ordered to build to defend her possessions. The estate, owned by the Counts Drei Donà since 1923, has always been dedicated to the production of Sangiovese grapes. The company underwent a radical transformation in 1979, when Claudio Drei Donà took over the management, together with his son Enrico. Of the 23 hectares cultivated under organic farming, the majority is dedicated to the Sangiovese vineyards from which the classic Predappio Doc "Notturno" and the Riserva "Vigna del Pruno ” are produced. The futurist vision of Count Claudio also gave birth to "Il Tornese" , the first great white wine from international grapes in Romagna and the red "Magnificat" , a "single vineyard" from the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard planted in this region. The particular names of the wines deserve a mention: in fact, they were baptized with the names of the horses of the small family breeding farm.
