TASTING NOTES
This Riesling from Gustave Lorentz is a perfect example of how the terroir of Alsace can express a remarkable aromatic variety, combining freshness, complexity, and minerality. Upon pouring it into the glass, the wine presents a pale colour with green reflections, which already hint at the vibrancy and freshness of its aromatic profile. Bringing the glass to the nose, we are greeted by a fresh and complex bouquet, where citrus notes intertwine with delicate tropical nuances. It is easy to recognise aromas of white flowers such as lime blossom and honeysuckle, alongside juicy fruits like green apple, pear, and peach. This collection of fragrances creates a truly captivating olfactory experience. Moving on to the palate, the Riesling Réserve 2023 reveals itself to be extremely fresh. Its refreshing acidity perfectly integrates with a subtle and balanced structure. The minerality, characteristic of great Alsace Rieslings, is a key component that imparts depth and character to the wine. Over time, notes of honey and dried fruit may develop, making each sip increasingly intriguing. The 2023 vintage has been particularly significant for viticulture in Alsace. Favourable climatic conditions allowed for optimal grape ripening, contributing to the production of wines with good acidity and superior aromatic complexity. Thanks to a semi-continental climate protected by the Vosges Mountains, dry and sunny autumns favoured an ideal concentration of sugars and aromatic compounds in the grapes. This enabled harvesting at just the right moment, ensuring maximum expression of the terroir. However, despite these favourable conditions for this vintage, Alsace also faced significant challenges. It is estimated that production decreased by 13% compared to the previous year due to adverse climatic events such as spring frosts and hailstorms that affected some vineyards. This has made the wines from the 2023 vintage even more precious and sought after. The Gustave Lorentz Riesling Réserve 2023 is an ideal companion for a wide range of refined dishes. It pairs beautifully with high-quality fish and roasted poultry. Additionally, it is perfect with washed-rind cheeses like Munster or Époisses, as well as Asian cuisine, particularly spicy dishes that require a wine capable of balancing flavours. This Riesling Réserve 2023 is not just a wine to be tasted; it is a sensory experience that reflects the richness of Alsace's terroir. With its vibrant freshness and complex aromatic notes, it represents an excellent choice for those looking to explore the wonders of Alsace Riesling.

Gustave Lorentz Discover Cantina Gustave Lorentz in Alsace and its fine wines in our online store In Alsace, more precisely in the village of Bergheim, the Lorentz family has been involved in wine production for 250 years . In fact, in 1863 Charles Lorentz founded the winery moved by an incredible passion for the wine world. The vineyards are located on the hills of Altenberg de Bergheim and Kanzlerberg . It is thanks to a great passion handed down from generation to generation that the company still maintains very high quality levels today. According to the production philosophy, the essence of the wines is the result of the intimate and close relationship between vines, territory and climate. Currently the property includes 33 hectares and is entrusted to the sixth generation of the Lorentz family. Riesling , Pinot Grigio , Gewürztraminer and other varieties in the Altenberg hills express their typicality, year after year. The recognition for this perseverance took place in 1983, with the classification of these vineyards as " Gran Cru ".
