TASTING NOTES
The 2021 Gustave Lorentz Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim Organic is an outstanding white wine made exclusively from 100% Riesling grapes sourced from the prestigious Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim, a terroir renowned for its exceptional wines since the 13th century. The vineyard is situated on clay-limestone soils, with very old vines aged between 30 and 50 years, imparting remarkable depth and complexity to the wine. Visually, this Riesling shows a bright, intense golden yellow hue. The nose reveals elegant and refined aromas of grapefruit and bergamot, complemented by subtle hints of flint and white pepper, lending a delicate mineral and spicy character. On the palate, it is broad, concentrated, and fine, with a well-defined structure and complexity enriched by delicate notes of Amalfi lemon, tarragon, and sage. The finish is long, elegant, and very persistent, with excellent ageing potential typical of a top Grand Cru Riesling. Alcoholic fermentation takes place exclusively in large, century-old wooden casks, allowing slow and controlled maturation that preserves the wine’s aromatic richness and complexity. The wine is aged in bottle for at least five years, during which it gains structure, elegance, and impressive longevity. Certified organic, this wine reflects Gustave Lorentz’s commitment to sustainable viticulture and full respect for its terroir. The 2021 Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim Organic pairs perfectly with refined fish dishes, shellfish, white meats, and mature cheeses, but also stands out beautifully on its own. In summary, the 2021 Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim Organic represents the perfect balance of elegance, minerality, and complexity, embodying the true essence of a great Alsace Riesling with a unique character rooted in its historic and organic terroir.

Gustave Lorentz Discover Cantina Gustave Lorentz in Alsace and its fine wines in our online store In Alsace, more precisely in the village of Bergheim, the Lorentz family has been involved in wine production for 250 years . In fact, in 1863 Charles Lorentz founded the winery moved by an incredible passion for the wine world. The vineyards are located on the hills of Altenberg de Bergheim and Kanzlerberg . It is thanks to a great passion handed down from generation to generation that the company still maintains very high quality levels today. According to the production philosophy, the essence of the wines is the result of the intimate and close relationship between vines, territory and climate. Currently the property includes 33 hectares and is entrusted to the sixth generation of the Lorentz family. Riesling , Pinot Grigio , Gewürztraminer and other varieties in the Altenberg hills express their typicality, year after year. The recognition for this perseverance took place in 1983, with the classification of these vineyards as " Gran Cru ".
