TASTING NOTES
Situated right behind the eponymous Dürnsteiner Kellerschlössl the Ried Kellerberg plainly is the paragon for a top single vineyard in the Wachau. Vines are growing on mainly south-eastern exposed handcrafted terraces made of natural stones and soils of Gföhler gneiss with feldspar, quartz and weathered primary rock and Paragneiss in certain places – on the bottom we find Loess sediments too. The long vegetation period caused by the cold airstreams from the so-called Flickental during the night is ensuring a very late harvest. Just these special microclimatic features generate wines combining refinement and power in a matchless kind. The vines are 25-35 years old and the grapes picked by hand at the end of October/ beginning of November, are fermented and aged for 10 months in big oak casks. The wine that is obtained has at the nose is a heady mix of very ripe and aromatic dried pear. At the palate adds yeasty roundness to this fulsome fruit, adding an extra dimension and some pleasant midpalate texture with an almost salty tang. There is concentrated freshness, which holds this together and gives it direction. The finish is warm and long.

Pichler-Krutzler Discover Cantina Pichler-Krutzler in the Wachau region and its fine wines in our online store In 2006 Elisabeth Pichler and Erich Krutzler founded their winery in the Wachau region. Both come from families belonging to the wine world, they have created together unique wines with a noble soul, based on respect for nature, through sustainable viticulture. Pichler-Krutzler wines reflect the territory from which they come. These are wines harvested, refined and bottled without any assembly. The vineyards, mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, extend over stone terraces and can only be cultivated by hand. This is where a particular microclimate is created, influenced by the front, by the mild temperatures of Pannonia from the east by the cold winds that blow down from the valleys. The Wachau region, where these unique and quality wines are born, is in fact a real jewel recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
