KELLERBERG
Wachau
GRAPE VARIETY
Grüner Veltliner
TASTING NOTES
Situated just behind the Dürnsteiner Kellerschlössl of the same name, Kellerberg is the epitome of a top single vineyard in the Wachau. The vines are planted on terraces of natural stone, mainly exposed to the south-east, with soils of Gföhler gneiss with feldspar, quartz and weathered primary rock, and in places paragneiss, with loess sediments at the base. The long vegetation period, caused by cold night air currents from the so-called Flickental, ensures a very late harvest. These special microclimatic features produce wines that combine refinement and power in a unique way. The vines are 25-35 years old and the grapes, hand-picked at the end of October/beginning of November, are fermented and aged for 10 months in large oak barrels. The resulting wine has a heady blend of very ripe and aromatic dried pears on the nose. On the palate, a yeasty roundness adds an extra dimension to this lush fruit and a pleasant mid-palate texture with an almost salty tang. There is a concentrated freshness that holds this together and gives it direction. The finish is warm and long.
