TASTING NOTES
The 2020 harvest in Alta Langa began on 17 August with the delivery of the first bunches of Pinot Noir to the winery. The winery's vineyards have different exposures and altitudes, which will influence the harvest over time. Despite an early flowering period, the cool summer temperatures allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, bringing the harvest to an almost normal date. The grapes are healthy, beautiful and balanced in terms of ripeness and acidity. Roberto Garbarino has created an exceptional sparkling wine from a single vineyard, using 100% Pinot Noir grapes harvested in 2020. This is his first single-vineyard Metodo Classico, known for its harmonious elegance and complexity, enhanced by the lack of dosage. The vineyard is east-facing, allowing the grapes to benefit from the morning sun and temperature fluctuations that enhance the aromas of the fruit. The hand-selected grapes are macerated for 6 hours before being pressed. The base wine is fermented in steel tanks at 14°C and then bottled and stacked for the second fermentation. A month of re-fermentation at a controlled temperature, 30 to 40 months of ageing on the lees and about 1 year of remuage lead each bottle to disgorgement where nothing but the same wine is added. Indeed, the beauty of non-dosed sparkling wines is precisely this. The soft, slightly salmon pink is enlivened by a fine, persistent perlage. The sweetness of the red apple is muted by the pink grapefruit and rounded off by the crust of bread and sugared almond. Mineral and well balanced, it reveals an important structure and a long persistence in the mouth.
