TASTING NOTES
The 2021 grape harvest was a rollercoaster ride! A warm March made the vines sprout early, but then a frost in April hit the vineyards hard, especially in the southern area of Montalcino. Although production was reduced by 15%, we are confident that the quality of the wine will be exceptional! Despite this setback, the vines managed to ripen normally and the harvest of Rosso di Montalcino Lo Scorno 2021 began in the first ten days of October. The grapes underwent scrupulous pre-maceration at 10°C for two days before being skilfully fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks. This was followed by a long maceration on the skins for about 10 days. The wine then underwent a rigorous malolactic fermentation in steel, cement and wood vats. After ageing for a good 10 months in barriques and a further 4 months in bottles, the wine developed a splendid ruby red colour. The aroma is clean, intense and absolutely fascinating, reminiscent of juicy cherries with the addition of spicy notes that tantalize the taste buds. The palate is well structured, full and perfectly balanced, with silky tannins that will make you long for the second sip. This wine is absolutely fantastic! The ruby red colour is so vibrant and inviting, and the aroma is simply extraordinary, reminiscent of cherries preserved in alcohol, with just the right amount of spice to make it interesting. It is full-bodied and perfectly balanced, with silky tannins that linger on the tongue and bring back the initial olfactory notes. Moreover, it is certified organic.

San Filippo is located east of Montalcino, where the most long-lived and elegant wines of the entire Brunello area are produced. It covers an area of about 22 hectares, 11 of which are vineyards, where Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah are mainly grown, and about one and a half hectares of olive groves. Founded in 1972, the company was bought by Roberto Giannelli, who renovated and refurbished all the buildings and outdoor areas of the property and the wine resort. At the same time, Roberto has also modernized the production of wines, making use of the experience of excellent experts and excellent technicians he has always trusted. The modern and functional cellar extends over a covered area of more than 1,000 square meters and includes a space for winemaking, a room for refining, a department for bottling, packaging and storing wines. The aging cellar is located in the grounds of the old farmhouse.
