TASTING NOTES
Arcanum is the flagship of the wine production of the Arceno estate. Obtained mainly from Cabernet Franc, the most representative grape of the estate, the wine is enhanced thanks to a further refinement in the bottle, but also excites in its youth, with its aromas of violet, rose, raspberry and delicate spicy notes that extend up to to the palate; it is a seductive wine in its refined finesse. Arcanum comes mainly from the Cabernet Franc Apparita and Belvedere blocks. Their excellent exposure and sandy clay soils guarantee each year the best expression of this variety for the flagship wine of the Arceno estate. In difficult years the true production quality of a winery is confirmed. As a critical essay said, "everyone can make good wine in a favorable year, but only the best wineries produce great wines even in difficult years". 2014 was one of the most complicated harvests of the past, but thanks to the right management of the foliage and the excellent soils, Arcanum also shines in this vintage. Cabernet Franc has the unique ability to excel in both hot and cold years, because it doesn't ripen either too early or too late, so it always finds the right window to produce high quality fruit. The 2014 vintage took longer to fully express its potential, which is why it came out of the cellar a year after 2015. The nose has classic notes of earth, cypress and mint with hints of fresh blueberry. Soft and pleasantly tantalizing tannins dominate the palate, flavors of strawberries, exotic spices and white chocolate. The finish is long and fresh with the typical hints of Cabernet Franc, namely cedar, white pepper and tobacco. A vibrant vintage, framed in an exemplary way by pleasant minerality and soft tannins. This wine will age wonderfully thanks to 12 months of aging in 80% new French oak.
