100% Sangiovese
Strada al Sasso is a prestigious Sangiovese exclusively from a single vineyard block. This exceptional microcru planted in 1998 is located in a very windy area of the estate. The vineyard is characterised by high-density, low-yield planting, with a careful choice of rootstocks and clones best suited to the soil. Strada al Sasso is the most intense, deep, concentrated and complex wine of the Arceno Estate. The aromas are rich with notes of black fruits, violets and freshly roasted coffee beans. The palate is dense and dominated by notes of plums, nutmeg and undergrowth. It has a firm acidity and balanced tannins. Pleasant even when young, it should be allowed to age for a long time to continue its natural evolution and refinement. The 2020 vintage can be considered ideal. A mild, dry winter was followed by abundant spring rains. A considerable temperature range during the summer, with warm days and cool nights, helped to preserve the acidity and aromas. The absence of extreme weather conditions favoured excellent fruit production, resulting in a very balanced vintage with moderate alcohol, bright fruit notes and elegant tannins. The Sangiovese vines for this Riserva were harvested at optimal ripeness. The plots for this Gran Selezione were harvested at optimal ripeness from 2 to 5 October. This pure Sangiovese has a luminous nose, typical of a temperate vintage, with floral aromas - roses and violets - followed by cypress and fresh rosemary. Ripe raspberry flavours and vanilla berry notes dominate the palate. The palate is complex, rich with soft tannins and an acidity that carries the classic Sangiovese signature. The dominant flavours show intense raspberry and vanilla berry notes. The finish is very mineral with lingering tones of orange peel and cedar. The interplay of acid, fruit and earth is a clear testimony to the terroir of this region.

Tenuta di Arceno

Tenuta di Arceno Discover Tenuta di Arceno in Tuscany and its fine wines in our online store Tenuta di Arceno is located on the hills of Chianti Classico , precisely in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The estate was first owned by the Sienese Taja family and then passed to the Piccolomini, a historic Tuscan family that was very influential in Siena. In 1994 it was bought by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke . From a clear Tuscan lineage, the wines of Tenuta di Arceno own a level of richness, concentration and character comparable to the best wines in the world. The 92 hectares of vineyards are located on rocky hills at an altitude between 300 and 560 above see level. The company has always cultivated the most famous native vine of Tuscany, Sangiovese , but also experimenting with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot . The oenological team, that consistt of two winemakers, Lawrence Cronin and Pierre Seillan , brought great sensitivity to the production of the six wines produced. On one hand we find the Chianti Classico wines, which express their best in the Gran Selezione Strada al Sasso . On the other hand, Bordeaux blended wines, such as il Fauno by Arcanum, Valadorna and Arcanum , made from Cabernet Franc and the Merlot.
