TASTING NOTES
The Nebbiolo Dancestro from Tenuta L'Illuminata for the 2023 vintage presents itself as a wine of great potential, resulting from a year characterised by variable yet favourable climatic conditions for viticulture. The growing season began with uncertainties due to a cold winter and an extended dry spell. However, significant rainfall in February allowed the vines to resume their vegetative activity. The spring saw little initial precipitation, followed by cool and unsettled weather in May and June, necessitating careful management to prevent plant diseases. A significant climatic event occurred on July 6, with heavy rains and hail affecting some areas, although these did not severely damage the most crucial regions for Nebbiolo production. The summer season was warm and stable, with no significant water stress for the vineyards. Veraison commenced in early August, revealing a good crop load and optimal health of the clusters. Analyses conducted at the end of August confirmed that the harvest would occur at traditional times, with black grape varieties ready for picking in October. Tenuta L'Illuminata is located in one of the most renowned areas for Nebbiolo cultivation, specifically in the heart of the Langhe, where the terroir plays a crucial role in the wine's quality. The hills of Barolo and Barbaresco provide an ideal microclimate, with soils rich in clay and limestone that enhance the aromatic expression of Nebbiolo. Nebbiolo is known for its complexity and ageing potential. For the 2023 vintage, this grape variety is expected to exhibit phenolic and technological levels typical of great years, with a balance between acidity and sugars promising elegant and structured wines. In the glass, the wine displays an intense garnet red colour, characteristic of Nebbiolo. Floral notes of rose and violet are complemented by fruity hints of cherry and plum, alongside earthy and spicy nuances. The palate is full and elegant, featuring soft tannins and a vibrant freshness that invites further drinking. The finish is long and persistent, revealing complexity and ageing potential.
