GRAPE VARIETY
Cannonau - Also known as Grenache
TASTING NOTES
This Cannonau, also known as Grenache or Granacha, grows on pebbly soils lashed by the wind. The 2021 vintage was characterised by a drop in quantity of about 15% due to an unexpected frost in April. The winter was rainy, thus allowing an important accumulation of water reserves. The vegetative cycle, initially a week late, recovered in the following months. June and July were characterised by the absence of rain and high temperatures, conditions that favoured the development of beautiful, healthy grapes. The further absence of rain combined with high temperatures in August facilitated the full ripening of the grapes, which were then harvested, strictly by hand and in boxes, healthy and sweet. Vinification and refinement are aimed at not disrupting or counteracting what this splendid grape offers, so after fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks, refinement also takes place in steel tanks and unroasted French oak barriques. Cannonau 2021 is light ruby red in colour and the nose is wonderfully sweet and fresh with the absolutely typical Grenache scents. This Cannonau begins with a super-aromatic petal and white pepper fragrance joined by some red berry notes. Intense in the mouth, plenty of salinity through the sweet, creamy and fleshy cherry and strawberry fruit, accompanied by flecks of spice and a long, gentle finish with a slightly earthy quality. Very easy to drink. In July 2021, the winery completed the conversion process to organic farming, and is therefore certified.
