TASTING NOTES
Basilica del Cortaccio, a prestigious vineyard belonging to Cafaggio, is made up of 4.2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The unique and delightful taste of these grapes is the result of the ideal environmental conditions in which they are grown, reflecting the best expressions of the original grape variety. The vineyard has been organically farmed since its first production in 1989. The 2018 vintage in Chianti Classico, where the vineyard is located, was highly acclaimed. The weather conditions were favourable, beginning with a cold and rainy winter that allowed the vines to accumulate important water reserves. This was followed by a warm and dry spring, which favoured early flowering and perfect ripening of the grapes. Throughout the summer, sunny days and moderate temperatures created an environment without extreme heat, while cool nights helped to maintain the acidity of the grapes. The autumn was also ideal, with dry weather during the harvest. As a result, the harvest went smoothly, with healthy, well-ripened grapes. The result of these exceptional weather conditions and careful cultivation was a vintage of outstanding quality. The Chianti Classico wines of the 2018 vintage have an elegant character, with a harmonious balance and abundant fruit flavours, accompanied by soft tannins and lively acidity. These wines are considered true treasures in the world of oenology, with immediate appeal and the potential to evolve magnificently over time. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes of the Cortaccio vineyard, located at an altitude of 355 metres and exposed to the south-west, grow in a clayey soil. This particular combination of factors contributes to the unique organoleptic profile of the wine, adding complexity and distinctiveness to its overall character. In conclusion, the Basilica del Cortaccio vineyard in Cafaggio produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The 2018 vintage in the Chianti Classico area was particularly favourable, resulting in high-quality wines with remarkable balance and intense fruitiness. The Cortaccio vineyard's south-west exposure and loamy soils further enhance the uniqueness and complexity of its Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall, the wines from this vineyard are considered true oenological treasures that can be enjoyed immediately, but also have the potential to develop and improve with age.
