TASTING NOTES
THE CHAMPAGNE HOUSE WANTS TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE MAN AND CELEBRATE HIS LEGEND. The Maison wants to pay tribute to these 200 years of adventure and has prepared many surprises for this special year. Charles loved the fresh air of freedom and the precious value of time. At the tender age of 29, he founded his Maison and earned a nickname, Charlie. Like a visionary, he set his sights on the long term and invested in ancient chalk cellars, the perfect home for the ageing of his wines. The year 2022 is a landmark year and sees the launch of two champagnes: The Brut Réserve Collector Edition, which showcases one man's talent through a collector's bottle exquisitely decorated by French artist Catherine Gran, who has turned the bottle of this Collector Edition into a temple, made to stand the test of time with elegance. The second is the triumphant return of Champagne Charlie, the French-American rebirth of an iconic cuvée that underlines the renewed ambitions of the Maison Charles Heidsieck. A selection of some 60 crus representing less than 20% of the best villages in the Champagne region. The blend includes more than 50% reserve wines, which have more than 20 years of ageing, with the remainder coming from the 2017 vintage. 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier. First-pressing must only. Vinification in steel vats and 5 to 10% ageing in oak vats. To the eye, the Brut Réserve Collector Edition boasts a deep golden hue. Delicate, lively bubbles are the result of a long, slow maturation process in chalk cellars. The assemblage offers a complex, elegant and voluptuous nose with a touch of freshly baked brioche, rich toasted notes and sun-drenched fruits such as mango, mirabelle plum and apricot, accentuated by dried fruits such as pistachio and almond. On the palate, the texture is reminiscent of a crunchy layer of nogatine on a velvety cream pastry, filled with red plums and ripe cherries. The selection of reserve wines lends lushness to the wine. The finish reveals notes of praline and vanilla. Generosity, precision and depth are the hallmarks of this wine that combines richness and freshness. A bottle not to be missed.

Charles Heidsieck

Charles Heidsieck Discover the Maison Charles Heidsieck and its fine Champagnes in our online store Charles Camille Heidsieck was born in 1822, 37 years after his great-uncle founded Champagne Heidsieck et Cie House. The young Charles grew up in an environment where one breathed the air of champagne from an early age. At just 29, he took his destiny into his own hands and founded the Maison Charles Heidsieck , buying 47 crayères in which to vinify the grapes grown by his cousin Ernest Henriot. The 19th Century was the era of great discoveries and Charles immediately revealed himself to be a visionary, innovative and highly intelligent man. He became ambassador of his own Maison and, consequently, of all of France. During his travels, Charles Heidsieck embodied contemporary French glamor and distinguished himself as a free spirit with an innate kindness. Charles was a man with an elegant and clean charm, he conquered America and seduced the bourgeoisie of New York, becoming the legendary "Champagne Charlie" . More than 160 years after its creation, the Maison remains a family business driven by the enterprising, ambitious and courageous spirit of the founder. The Champagnes Charles Heidsieck enjoys absolute fame. The unique style, characterized by a high percentage of reserve wines, is what gives balance to the Maison's cuvée sans année. The selected grapes give, together with the original Crus, complexity to the final product. Vinified vine by vine, they allow a precise selection of each wine in which one brings its touch of depth, the other its share of softness. The separate vinification allows precision and great refinement in the construction of flavors.
