TASTING NOTES
Created in 1930 in Weinsberg, Germany, Kerner is a cross between Schiava and Riesling. It develops well in the high altitude, gravelly and sandy soils of the central Eisack and Ritten Valleys. With an early bud break in the dry months, followed by a rainy spring and a wet summer, the 2023 harvest had to cope with difficult weather conditions. However, the vineyards in South Tyrol experienced a perfect mix of heat, rain and dry autumn. The bad weather posed a challenge for the winegrowers, making extra effort necessary to avoid damage. However, despite these conditions, the white wines of 2023 promise to be crisp, lively, fruity and light. The grapes undergo meticulous selection and soft pressing, followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. After maturation in stainless steel for about four months, the wine is bottled and aged for a further two months before release. The colour is straw yellow with greenish reflections. The nose is intense, aromatic, with hints of peach and apricot, with spicy notes reminiscent of nutmeg. The taste is dry, full, savoury and fresh.
