TASTING NOTES
Pinot Bianco, despite being an international grape variety, was introduced in South Tyrol in 1850 by the Archduke John of Austria, and since then it become a typical grape of the region. What is obtained from vineyards located at high altitude characterized by strong temperature variations between day and night, is an elegant wine, with a pleasant and refreshing taste and consistent acidity. The 2022 harvest in South Tyrol, as throughout Italy, will be remembered as one of the hottest and driest. Second in temperature only to that of 2015, it began, at least in this area, almost three weeks earlier. The grapes brought to the cellar are slightly smaller than in previous years, with a higher sugar content and decidedly warmer aromas. The harvest of this Pinot Bianco 2022 Winzerberg began in early-September, with the selection of the grapes directly in the vineyard. After a soft pressing, the must ferments at a controlled temperature and refines in steel tanks to keep the varietal aromas unaltered. The color is straw yellow with greenish reflections. The nose is fruity with aromas of yellow apple, pear, peach and light notes of pineapple. The taste is fresh, with a nice finish on the palate. Perfect as an aperitif, with asparagus, fish and shellfish dishes such as spaghetti with seafood or vegetarian dishes. It can certainly be interesting to compare the same wine with the previous vintage, 2021, which in contrast had been cool and had led to a slightly delayed harvest.
