Cannonau - Also known as Grenache
TASTING NOTES
This Cannonau, also known as Grenache or Granacha, grows in stony soils buffeted by the wind and proudly represents the Sardinian winemaking tradition. The 2022 vintage has been characterised by a particular climatic pattern that positively influenced the quality of the grapes. Indeed, the 2022 growing season experienced a climate that alternated between periods of intense heat and moments of cool night temperatures, typical of Sardinia. These thermal excursions are crucial for the maturation of the grapes, as they promote balanced sugar development and optimal aromatic concentration. Although rainfall was not abundant, it was well-distributed throughout the growing season, helping to keep the vines healthy and ensuring good soil hydration. The Cannonau 2022 by Antonella Corda presents itself with an intense ruby red colour, enriched by violet reflections. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet of ripe red fruit, with notes of cherry, blackberry, and redcurrant, accompanied by delicate vegetal and spicy nuances. These aromas evoke the Mediterranean scrub typical of the Sardinian territory. On the palate, the wine stands out for its robust structure and well-integrated tannins, which provide a pleasant softness. The finish is long and persistent, with a savoury note that invites another sip. The Cannonau 2022 pairs well with typical dishes from Sardinian and Mediterranean cuisine. It is ideal with antipasti of cured meats, meat-based first courses, and aged cheeses. Its versatility also makes it perfect for accompanying grilled dishes and game. In July 2021, the winery completed its conversion to organic farming and is now certified.
