TASTING NOTES
Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend from more than 20 Napa Valley vineyards. 2018 was a fine vintage that helped create a Cabernet Sauvignon with a very classic style. The nose opens with aromas of pomegranate, black cherry, cigar box and baking spices. The palate is lively and complex with flavors of wild blueberry, berries, cocoa powder, espresso and leather. The tannins are well-integrated and soft, making it enjoyable to taste but also has the capacity to age for decades in the cellar. Heavy winter rains helped replenish the water table. The vines responded to the water and moderate spring weather with abundant growth. Fine weather prevailed during flowering, allowing uniform fruit set. The summer was mild, with plenty of sun during the day and cool sea influences at night. The harvest was nearly ideal, both in terms of timing and grape size. In general 2018 wines have a well-integrated tannic structure that will help them age well for decades. This 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is aged 27 months in French oak barrels, 40% of it in new wood, and has an absolutely interesting longevity of more than 20 years.
