TASTING NOTES
The wines of Tenuta La Palazza di Drei Donà are all dedicated to the house horses, except the new LillyBeth. Tornese was the horse that walked free among the vineyards grazing the grass between the rows and that one day began to eat the bunches of grapes: that was the exact day when the harvest had to begin! The grapes are harvested by hand in two steps in the 2nd and 3rd decade of August. After 18 hours of cold maceration in contact with the skins, the Riesling Renano and Chardonnay are vinified separately in stainless steel at a controlled temperature. Only 10% of the Chardonnay ferments in French wooden tonneaux for about 30/40 days at a controlled temperature. The malolactic fermentation is carried out in part to soften the malic acid of the wine but still maintain a good acidity to ensure a good longevity of the product, which is 4/5 years. The Tornese 2022 was aged on its own fine lees for a period of 4 months, both in tonneaux and in steel tanks. After the creation of the cuvée it is left to mature in steel for a month and then refined for at least 3 months in the bottle. Il Tornese 2022 is an elegant wine with a remarkable structure. Straw yellow color, splendid blend of Mediterranean and exotic fruits with notes of ginger, cardamom, apricot and vanilla with hints of apple. Good acidity and long persistence. Excellent with baked fish or noodles with king crab.

The Tenuta La Palazza was built between the cities of Forlì and Predappio in a strategic position between the valleys of the Montone and Rabbi rivers, around one of the watchtowers that Caterina Sforza ordered to build to defend her possessions. The estate, owned by the Counts Drei Donà since 1923, has always been dedicated to the production of Sangiovese grapes. The company underwent a radical transformation in 1979, when Claudio Drei Donà took over the management, together with his son Enrico. Of the 23 hectares cultivated under organic farming, the majority is dedicated to the Sangiovese vineyards from which the classic Predappio Doc "Notturno" and the Riserva "Vigna del Pruno ” are produced. The futurist vision of Count Claudio also gave birth to "Il Tornese" , the first great white wine from international grapes in Romagna and the red "Magnificat" , a "single vineyard" from the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard planted in this region. The particular names of the wines deserve a mention: in fact, they were baptized with the names of the horses of the small family breeding farm.
