TASTING NOTES
The Pinot Gris Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim comes from the oldest vineyards (30 to 50 years old) of the property, located in the hills surrounding the village of Bergheim. The terrain consists of a very marked mineral profile, as well as a geological variety developed over the course of the natural phenomena of history. The 2015 harvest was fantastic in Alsace. The winter was not particularly harsh and in early spring Alsace benefited from much more rainfall than the previous year. June and July were very hot for the averages of the area and the summer was interspersed with thunderstorms that cooled down the vineyards. The climatic conditions at the beginning of the harvest were also ideal. The health of the grapes was absolutely perfect. Furthermore, the sunny days and colder nights helped to preserve freshness, an important feature since this year the question was to know how to maintain and manage the acidity that tends to decrease with the sun and beautiful days. The grapes, once harvested by hand and pressed whole, undergo a very slow fermentation, thanks to indigenous yeasts, in large oak barrels. Subsequently the aging of the wines takes place on the fine lees for 12 months in large oak barrels. At the sight the wine obtained is of an intense and luminous golden yellow. The nose is elegantly expressed on nuances of honey, ripe yellow fruit, flowers and aromatic herbs, with a strong mineral note. On the palate, the wine relaxes with wonderful structure and tension on notes of dried fruit, honey and wax. Suitable for pairing with foie gras, Peking duck, aged cheeses and exotic fruit. Great aging potential.
