TASTING NOTES
The single vineyard Ried Pfaffenberg is bordering the Wachau at its east and is part of the historic town Krems/ Stein belonging to the wine growing region Kremstal. These vineyards comprise slightly slopes on a steep rugged rock and south to south-west exposed plateau with some terraces facing the Loibner basin. The crystalline bedrock consists of Gföhler gneiss and mica schist. Mostly cool winds are breezing from the west and it is hence exposed to temperature extremes. The Pfaffenberg is supposed to be one of the best places for Riesling in entire Austria – the wines are of great purity and of long term aging potential. The vines are 35 years old Harvest is by hand mid of October and the fermentation and maturation takes 5-6 months in stainless steel. What you get has incredibly pure notes of ripe tangerine peel and juicy tangerine. A riot of ripe citrus freshness is then released on a concentrated but tense palate. The flavors of ripe mandarin, and Meyer lemon are expressed with aromatic and heady intensity, while mineral and stony notes prevent it from being meaty or greasy. Adorable now, sure it will evolve very well. Drink between 2018-2035.

Pichler-Krutzler Discover Cantina Pichler-Krutzler in the Wachau region and its fine wines in our online store In 2006 Elisabeth Pichler and Erich Krutzler founded their winery in the Wachau region. Both come from families belonging to the wine world, they have created together unique wines with a noble soul, based on respect for nature, through sustainable viticulture. Pichler-Krutzler wines reflect the territory from which they come. These are wines harvested, refined and bottled without any assembly. The vineyards, mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, extend over stone terraces and can only be cultivated by hand. This is where a particular microclimate is created, influenced by the front, by the mild temperatures of Pannonia from the east by the cold winds that blow down from the valleys. The Wachau region, where these unique and quality wines are born, is in fact a real jewel recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
