TASTING NOTES
The notation “In der Wand” is going back to a donation of the parish of Dürnstein in the year 1314 and describes three parcels in the site of so called Kummersthal, situated west of Dürnstein, but is not registered as single vineyard. Accessible only on foot via some 100 stone steps this handworked steep sloped terraced site is unique and yields extreme temperature differences between day and night caused by its western orientation. This facts combined with a high amount of Orthogneiss and the shallow topsoil allows this site to yield extremely minerally and long-lasting wines. Awfully focused and mineral with lots of stone fruit aromas and a sublime length – since 2017 they work organic here. The 2020 Riesling In der Wand has a hint of creaminess creeps deliciously into the orange zest notes on the nose. The palate comes on light feet but is vibrant with zesty notes of ripe orange and Amalfi lemon. The body is slender but concentrated, almost fizzing with ripe and utterly fresh zestiness. The finish is clean, taut and dry with lasting, mouthwatering citrus. Drink by 2040.

Pichler-Krutzler

Pichler-Krutzler Discover Cantina Pichler-Krutzler in the Wachau region and its fine wines in our online store In 2006 Elisabeth Pichler and Erich Krutzler founded their winery in the Wachau region. Both come from families belonging to the wine world, they have created together unique wines with a noble soul, based on respect for nature, through sustainable viticulture. Pichler-Krutzler wines reflect the territory from which they come. These are wines harvested, refined and bottled without any assembly. The vineyards, mainly Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, extend over stone terraces and can only be cultivated by hand. This is where a particular microclimate is created, influenced by the front, by the mild temperatures of Pannonia from the east by the cold winds that blow down from the valleys. The Wachau region, where these unique and quality wines are born, is in fact a real jewel recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
