CANNONAU OF SARDINIA
Name of Controlled Origin
Grape variety
Cannonau
SENSORY CHARACTERISTICS
Light ruby red color. Wonderfully sweet and fresh nose absolutely typical of Grenache/Garnacha. Very balanced and yet fresh wine with aromas of rose petals and a pinch of salinity on the finish with a slight suggestion of a tannin reminiscent of finer sand. This wine is one of the best representatives of this beautiful grape variety. So kind, refreshing and, despite the alcohol, pure and ethereus. Antonella Corda is a Sardinian wine producer with a history. His mother Maria is the daughter of Antonio Argiolas, who has done so much to bring wine to Sardinia, a beautiful Italian island. The famous winemaker died at the age of 104 and no doubt inspired his niece to study agronomy. He also left her two of his finest vineyards just north of Cagliari. Antonella Corda began working with the family's 15 hectares (37 acres) of vines and 12 hectares (30 acres) of olive trees in 2010 and 2016 produced its own bottled wine. The constant wind from the sea is a key factor and has an important influence on the quality of the wine. Antonella Corda was awarded as Emerging Winery 2019 by gambero rosso's Vini d'Italia guide and its flagship wine, Cannonau di Sardegna DOC in both 2016 and 2017, was awarded with the Three Glasses. In 2018 with 17/20 from Vinum and now with 2019 with 17.5/20 from Jacins Robinson, a sign that the product is also growing internationally, and is recognized as excellent by the most influential critics worldwide. In July 2021 the company will also conclude the conversion process to Organic, and will therefore be certified.
