TASTING NOTES
Reports on the climate and first tastings by experts suggest that the 2018 vintage in Burgundy could have all the characteristics of a legendary vintage. The year was characterized by the ripening seasons of the grapes among the hottest and driest from the intense heat wave of 2003. Despite a rainy winter and spring, the perfect weather arrived in time for an early but very successful flowering. . The summer was hot and extremely dry. The ideal climatic conditions during the end of August and September allowed the producers to harvest undisturbed, which made the vintage very good. Clos des Ormes is a prestigious climat Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru. The vineyard is entirely planted with Pinot Noir and is known for its rich and structured wines with earthy and cherry characters. The three-hectare vineyard sits at the foot of the Côte d'Or slope, between the nearby Premier Cru vineyards of Aux Charmes to the north (with the Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru of Gevrey-Chambertin just beyond) and Les Charrières to the south. des Ormes is named after the elms that once stood on the site and which were previously much more common in this part of Burgundy. Clos des Ormes has a terroir with marly and rocky limestone soils. These soils are draining and not very deep, which makes them great for viticulture - vines that don't have easy access to water work harder to find it and conserve their energy to produce small, high-quality berries rather than leafy vegetation. . Intense red color. Bouquet of great complexity: in general the fruit aromas dominate during his youth, then the smoky notes take over. The spicy tones that stand out during its aging give it a particular character, rare in the Côte de Nuits.
