Typical Geographical Indication
Vermentino 100%
Obizzo is a wine made from Vermentino grapes grown in Bolgheri (LI), a coastal area on the Tyrrhenian Sea with sandy loam soil. The 2022 season was challenging to manage in the Bolgheri DOC region due to a mild spring following five years of frost, followed by a hot and dry summer. Drought persisted from April to August, as is typical in this area. In 2022, there was a contrast to the previous year as rains arrived, which provided some relief from the heat and drought in the later part of the summer. The harvest was slightly delayed due to delayed pruning and tillage to counteract grassing, allowing the plants to benefit from the rains. Harvesting takes place in September when the grapes are fully mature. The selected grapes are then taken to the cellar for vinification. After pressing, the must is statically decanted at a temperature of 10°C and fermented with selected yeasts at a temperature of 18-20°C. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete and racking has been carried out, the wine is left to age sur lie for 5 months in stainless steel wine vats before bottling. The wine has a pale straw yellow colour and the nose exhibits aromas of white flowers, lime curd, cream and barley. It is medium-bodied with a creamy, structured palate and a round, soft finish.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME Obizzo was a blond character in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.

Donna Olimpia 1898

Donna Olimpia 1898 Discover Tenuta Donna Olimpia 1898 in Tuscany and its fine wines in our online store Of ancient and noble origins, the Donna Olimpia 1898 estate was baptized in the same year in honor of Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno and wife of Gherardo della Gherardesca on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of their wedding. Located in the heart of Bolgheri , in the province of Livorno, spread over 60 hectares, 45 of which are new vineyards planted following a study on clones and rootstocks. The vines planted are obviously those whose vocation has been widely demonstrated: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot; for white wines, on the other hand, Vermentino, Viognier and Petit Manseng. Gifts of a unique territory, Donna Olimpia 1898's wines are characterized by their minerality, harmonic structure and intrinsic elegance. The estate boasts a modern cellar of 5000 square meters, designed to maximize energy savings and minimize environmental impact. It is equipped with the best available production technology, but still the aging in wood takes place in French oak barriques, so traditional. The barrel room is certainly the most important and evocative environment of the entire wine estate.
