TASTING NOTES
Obizzo is a wine made from Vermentino grapes from vineyards located in Bolgheri (LI), on the coastal strip of the Tyrrhenian Sea, lying on sandy loam soil. The seasonal trend of 2022 was not easy to manage in the Bolgheri DOC territory. Spring, after the previous five years that had been characterised by frosts, was finally mild. The summer was very hot and dry. The drought lasted almost uninterruptedly from April until August, as is often the case in this area. In 2022, in contrast to the previous year, rains arrived, which often cooled down and gave some water in the later part of the summer. Thanks to delayed pruning and tillage to counteract grassing, it was possible to slightly delay the harvest and thus allow the plants to benefit from the rains. Harvesting takes place at full maturity in September. The grapes, selected in the vineyard, are then taken to the cellar to be vinified. After pressing, the must obtained is statically decanted at a temperature of 10°C and fermented with selected yeasts at a temperature of 18-20°C. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete and racking has been carried out, the wine is left to age sur lie for 5 months in stainless steel wine vats before bottling. Pale straw yellow in colour, the nose shows aromas of white flowers, lime curd, cream and barley. It is medium-bodied with a creamy, structured palate. Round and soft finish.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME Obizzo was a blond character in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
