TASTING NOTES
This wine is made from 100% Riesling grapes from the classified Grand Cru site of the Altenberg Vineyard in Bergheim, which has been owned by Gustave Lorentz for 7 generations. The dominant soil of this area is clay and limestone. The vines from which this wine is made are very old, between 30 and 50 years old, and since 2012 have been completely organically cultivated. The pride of the Bergheim winegrowers, Altenberg has been renowned for its fine wines since the end of the 13th century. Regardless of the vintage, the Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is a complex wine with great body and concentration, characterised by fresh and delicate aromas. Aromas of citrus fruits and a touch of minerality can be perceived, the acidity is elegant and well balanced and there is a slightly savoury note on the finish. It is an expressive and harmonious wine that embodies all the knowledge and experience of Gustave Lorentz. This wine ages at least 10 to 15 years in a classic vintage and 20 to 30 years in an exceptional vintage. The 2017 Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is a marvel: vibrant and inviting, it has wonderful aromas of honey, ginger, chalk and grapefruit, and then reveals a rich roasted pineapple palate with bright acidity and saline minerality. It is a multifaceted wine that can be served with fois gras, linguine with lobster, baked frog legs, goat or sheep cheese, or with a plum tart as dessert, to show its full gastronomic potential. This wine is a true chameleon, perfect for lovers of good food and wine.
