TASTING NOTES
The designation Loiben refers to the vineyards of Ober and Unterloiben at the eastern entrance to the Wachau. The soil, slightly sloping towards the Danube, is dominated by gravel mixed with some sandy sediments. At night, fresh air from a side valley, the so-called Menthalgraben, pours into the Loibner basin. This type of terroir results in very pure and vigorous wines with a high but still ripe acidity. The vines are somewhat younger than all the others on the Pichler-Krutzler estate, in fact they have an average age of 20 years. The year 2022 was a cool year with light, moderate rainfall interspersed, especially from the end of April to the end of September, with days with temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees and well ventilated. This created the ideal climatic conditions for absolutely balanced and elegant wines. Harvesting is always exclusively and completely manual, as also indicated on the back label. Fermentation and maturation of the wine in stainless steel takes 4-5 months. A lively and juicy dry Riesling, easy to enjoy. However, there is nothing superficial about this well-structured wine with its long mineral and spicy finish. This Riesling 2022 offers an intensely aromatic and finely mineral and even smoky bouquet of ripe, lush fruits, spiced with iodine notes of crushed stones. On the palate, it is a medium-light-bodied riesling, saline and savoury, without excess acidity or phenols, but with perfectly rounded and elegant fruit and a stimulating finish. It is a round and elegant wine. As from 2019, the winery and all its wines are certified organic - AT-BIO 402.
