TASTING NOTES
Valadorna is a blend based on Merlot coming mainly from the Valadorna and Capraia blocks, the most suitable vineyards of the estate for this variety of grapes and that convey in an exemplary way the complexity and mineral richness of the terroir. Both vineyards are located in the cooler part of the property and are naturally irrigated by the stream that crosses the grounds, characterized by brown sands. With a performance normally lower than the average, it is usually also the last Merlot blocks to mature in the tenuta di arceno. The 2015 vintage was almost perfect for viticulture. A rainy winter has allowed groundwater reserves to be filled for the warmer months ahead. After budding at the end of March, an ideal climate led to a textbook flowering, ensuring an abundant harvest. The summer was dry and warm, very sunny, but never torrid. The necessary precipitation came in the first weeks of August, without any other rain events until October, creating the ideal conditions for the harvest. It will be a vintage to remember for its opulence and elegance. In warm years like 2015, merlot shows its softer, wisest and slightly spicy character. The wine shows bright aromas of ripe black cherries, vanilla berry and cedar. The lit acidity dominates the palate and beautiful soft tannins round the heart to lead to a subtle but exciting finish. The palate shows flavors of sour cherry tart, dried red berries and black licorice, with a long finish of white pepper, and good minerality.

Tenuta di Arceno is located on the hills of Chianti Classico , precisely in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The estate was first owned by the Sienese Taja family and then passed to the Piccolomini, a historic Tuscan family that was very influential in Siena. In 1994 it was bought by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke . From a clear Tuscan lineage, the wines of Tenuta di Arceno own a level of richness, concentration and character comparable to the best wines in the world. The 92 hectares of vineyards are located on rocky hills at an altitude between 300 and 560 above see level. The company has always cultivated the most famous native vine of Tuscany, Sangiovese , but also experimenting with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot . The oenological team, that consistt of two winemakers, Lawrence Cronin and Pierre Seillan , brought great sensitivity to the production of the six wines produced. On one hand we find the Chianti Classico wines, which express their best in the Gran Selezione Strada al Sasso . On the other hand, Bordeaux blended wines, such as il Fauno by Arcanum, Valadorna and Arcanum , made from Cabernet Franc and the Merlot.
