TASTING NOTES
This Chianti Classico Riserva comes from a few south-facing and warmer vineyards. It is mainly made from Sangiovese grapes and rests for one year in French oak barriques. Characteristics such as the dark colour, the freshness of the fruity notes, in perfect balance with the tertiary aromas of spices, and the power of the velvety, well-balanced tannins make it a perfect example of a Chianti Classico Riserva. Fragrances of violets, plums, cherries, orange peel, underbrush, liquorice, cedar and tobacco dominate. The 2019 vintage had a late start. The cold winter with abundant rainfall allowed the vines to rest while the soil's water reserves regenerated. The cold weather lasted until late spring, and rainy spells in May posed a minor challenge for flowering. Summer provided pleasant temperatures, higher in August, but always moderated by strategic rains. The autumn was characterised by nice warm days and cool nights, allowing for perfectly balanced ripening. The harvest began on 14 September with the Merlot and ended on 23 October with the Sangiovese. The Riserva 2019 exudes aromas of cedar, cypress and roses, accompanied by raspberry and vanilla bean. On the palate, bright flavours of strawberries and cherry liqueur dominate, followed by secondary flavours of cocoa and coconut. This cooler vintage produced a Sangiovese with no edge, but with round, vibrant tannins and acidity, creating a savoury wine with a pleasant minerality and elegance. The long finish lingers with notes of black tea and citrusy tones of ripe oranges. The bright acidity suggests that it will age for several years and that 2019, like 2018, will be a great vintage.
